Girasole is the Italian for sunflower. This is a special (nearly opened) sunflower for a special little girl who has been "once around the sun".
I'll have to go back again on Monday and visit to see if the chrysanthemum sunflower has opened fully. I saw one two weeks ago, behind Mt Trocchio, but didn't photograph it. It looked like a huge pompom, and was so spectacular that it was all I could do to keep my eyes on the road. The particular beauty of the one above is that visiting the flower has a compulsory cup of tea and a chat attached...
Today I am grateful for daffodils and sunflowers.
